  • welcome to nurturing strength

Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog - the goal of this platform is to provide a space for me to discuss all things chiropractic care, exercise, mom and baby related topics. This space will allow me to discuss what I am commonly hearing and discussing in your homes and what the concerns families are presenting. Along with that, there will be discussions about the value of exercise throughout all stages of life as that has become a passion of mine the further I get into practice and the more that I learn about it and live it. Not only will you read about the professional side of things and gain a better understanding of my thought process when it relates to how I support you throughout your care, but you will also get to learn more about me and the things I enjoy to do outside of work (something I am totally still learning to do) and everything in between. As you get to learn more about why I created this business and what I envision it to become, I am hoping that you will gain more confidence in yourself, your abilities and the support that conservative care can provide. So to begin - here is some fun information about me and my business origin story! I was born and raised in Ohio where I spent the majority of my childhood doing all of the things - swimming, fishing, playing sports, playing in the snow and trying to make the biggest snowball possible, and babysitting. I am sure there is more that I am forgetting. I started to find my love of conservative care after getting injured playing volleyball and spending a lot of time in the athletic training room. This time was truly invaluable for me - I not only got to learn about how to rehab myself, but then I got to learn about sideline support for so many different sports - this is where I started to really develop an interest in this type of work. I spent a lot of time researching and shadowing different physical therapists to learn more, and fortunately I was able to meet and learn from some amazing providers who showed me that there is more to care than what the traditional model represents as well as helping develop the standards that I can hold myself to as a provider. This absolutely set the tone for how I began (and still do) my journey to chiropractic care - the biggest takeaway that I came away with is that every one is an athlete, to live a human life you are an athlete even though it looks completely different than what everyone traditionally associates an athlete with. Since everyone is an athlete, you deserve to be treated like an athlete and have the highest levels of care. I say all of this to say that this is the foundation of my practice and the beginning stages of my ‘why’.  Once I got to chiropractic school I wanted to be the ‘professional team chiropractor’ but much to my surprise so did every single one of my classmates. And for me being someone who does not love to follow the trend and do what everyone else is doing, I started to look in a different direction which was really sparked when I had a conversation with my OBGYN and she mentioned how she  found chiropractic care to be so supportive for her pregnant patients. Hearing that really piqued my interest around this population and allowed me to recognize that they are still underserved when it comes to conservative care and encouraging healthy, sustainable habits throughout pregnancy. Not only learning about this while in school, I started to have more conversations with more women who all had very similar stories of how they did not know that they could continue with running or lifting or that some of the symptoms that they were experiencing were not normal even though they are common. The biggest thing I noticed was the loneliness that was surrounding women throughout pregnancy and motherhood because there can be an embarrassment and vulnerability talking about what they are experiencing or navigating. This started to really hit home as I started to learn more about my moms journey through pregnancy and postpartum and hearing all of the things she was told and not told or that she dismissed because she didn’t have the resources and knowledge about. As I was hearing her story, I didn’t want anyone else to go through what she went through and I wanted to create something that I wish she would have had back then.  Throughout chiropractic school I began learning more about supporting women through pregnancy and postpartum as well as learning more about the pediatric world - which is where I originally wanted to practice as a physical therapist. When I tell you that the world of babies and toddlers is filled with SO much information and paths to go down, it was overwhelming but so much fun which is what pushed me to become a good resource for parents to bounce ideas off of and support them through the overwhelming first couple of years of parenthood. Through caring for these families in a traditional office setting, really demonstrated how much stress and anxiety presents for these families as they are running to a million different appointments while trying to learn this tiny new human and how to feed them and sleep all while recovering yourself - I started to see the need for creating support in home for families to help take away one extra appointment out of the house as well as tailoring what we work on to what is feasible to what you have at home so you don’t have to go out and buy so many different gadgets. That is a bit about how Nurturing Strength came to be. The goal and mission of Nurturing Strength is to empower women to find movement and exercise as a way to build confidence, strength and calmness in their body that is done in a sustainable way. As well as helping babies and kids develop appropriate movement patterns and habits to set them up for success as they grow and change throughout their life to give them the confidence and ability to move their body in ways that feel good. A couple of things to expect from me as we continue on this journey together is honest conversations about what you’re experiencing or concerned about, updates on what is going on in business and my life and workouts and anything that I am learning or reading about - either professionally or for fun.  Finally, a goal that I am working towards with this business is to create a community for families so that they can find their people along this journey - whether that is through exercise, challenges of pregnancy/postpartum/parenthood or finding commonality with hobbies that we enjoy (book club or knitting club, anyone?)  I hope you follow along on this journey and find a safe space for you in whatever capacity serves you the best. I am always here to be your biggest cheerleader and resource. I don’t know how to end blogs, one of these days I will have a cute and fun closing - but for now, stay tuned for more thoughts. :)
