your first appointment, explained

Beginning care with a new provider can feel intimidating because there is an air of mystery surrounding what the process will be - especially when they are saying that they are doing things differently than what most are already doing. I know I have felt like that throughout a couple of different recovery journeys.

Here is what you can expect from an appointment and myself while we are working together:

  1. We start with a conversation to begin getting to know each other and ensure that we will work well together and that you are comfortable with me.

  2. There is either a phone call where we can talk a bit more before scheduling an initial evaluation or we can go straight to an initial evaluation - this is will vary case by case and what you feel the most comfortable with.

  3. You do the boring stuff - paperwork (womp womp). I know we will have talked about a lot of the things in the forms you are completing so it can feel repetitive, but it is so helpful to have this all in writing for me. So a big thank you for completing them!

  4. Your first appointment! We will review your paperwork to make sure everything is covered and I don’t have any last minute questions. We will discuss what we are going to do and this can range from - a movement assessment, soft tissue work, adjusting and the beginnings of your rehab programming.

  5. Once that is complete, we discuss the plan of care that is best suited for you and your needs. From there we will schedule your following appointments.

  6. All of your follow up appointments will have the similar format of discussing what went well (or didn’t), what changed then we will move to a movement assessment and any necessary treatment and finishing with exercises.

What you can expect from me throughout this process is:

  • Communication between appointments so that we can make changes as quickly as possible if something comes up. You can also ask me questions as you think of them, instead of trying to remember everything for the next appointment.

  • Honesty in my recommendations and suggestions - I will tell you what I believe will be the best for you and your goals, but I will also have conversations around your concerns and other questions as you navigate this journey and interact with any other providers on your care team.

  • Timeliness in responding to your messages and preparing your programs (if I am not, please call me out on it)

  • Feeling supported and like you can show up as yourself - there is never any judgment for how you show up and what you are able to do. Please do not apologize for being yourself!

  • Support - I strive to show up as your biggest cheerleader and supporter as you work through your rehab and parenthood journeys.

I am sure there is significantly more that I am forgetting, but the main goal is to create as smooth and seamless care for you as possible.
